How do I find a good lawyer?
One way to find a divorce attorney is by word-of-mouth.
If several
of your friends or family members have been satisfied with the
services of a particular lawyer, there is an increased likelihood that
you too will be satisfied with that lawyer. However, take everything
your friends and family members say with a grain of salt every
divorce is different, and your friends lawyer may have never dealt
with the issues you are now facing. Talk to the lawyer and make
sure youre comfortable before making a decision.
Another way to get names of attorneys who handle divorce
cases is
to consult a local lawyer referral service. Many local bar associations
provide this type of service free of charge. Additionally, some local
organizations designed to assist battered women or low-income
individuals maintain a referral service. It may be worth the phone
call. Your clergy may also know of a reputable lawyer.
Other sources include the Yellow Pages and the Martindale-Hubbell
Directory, which is a nationwide listing of attorneys and their
backgrounds.
