Who pays the bills while the divorce is pending?
This issue may be addressed by asking the judge to
award child
support or alimony while the divorce is pending, or by asking for
the status quo to be maintained until the final judgment ending the
marriage is entered. Whatever the law of your state may be, the
judge will generally attempt to make sure that the marital bills are
paid in the most fair and reasonable manner possible. However,
bills that you incur individually, either during your marriage or after
your separation, may be your sole responsibility. You should discuss
this issue with your attorney at your initial meeting with her.
Keep in mind that the judge does not have to decide
this issue
for you, if you and your spouse are able to come to an agreement
yourselves. Generally, your agreement can be put into the form of
a court order, so that it has the same force and effect as if the
judge had decided the issue.
